It’s that time of year. The Durango Education Foundation is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Employee of the Year. Nominees can be any 9-R staff or teacher and are open to staff, students, parents, and teachers. Reconstruction work on North College Drive has started with initial improvements to underlying water and sewage systems. Be prepared for delays and altering one lane road closures throughout the summer. And San Juan Symphony’s summer is chock-full of events for the whole family. Anyone can nominate students, staff, parents, or community members. Categories include elementary school, middle school, high school, and support staff. All nominations are due May 5th at 11:59 PM. Roadwork has begun on the reconstruction of North College Drive. The work between Richer Drive and Aquarius Place includes water and sewer system infrastructure improvements, surface repaving, and traffic-calming measures. Work is planned to go throughout the summer with the goal to be completed early enough to avoid snow and the winter holidays. Traffic will continue throughout the construction, but will be alternating one lane with traffic flaggers during working hours 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Colorado News Collaborative is doing a Voter Voices 2024 survey to ask voters what they want their candidates to talk about as they compete for your votes. Mark your calendars for upcoming events with the San Juan Symphony. The Youth and Junior San Juan Symphony Orchestra concert will be April 28th at the Community Concert Hall. In May, the Musician Maker Scholarship concert will take place at 1:00 PM at St. Mark’s on May 5th, and then come join the Spring social fundraiser and silent auction that evening from 4 to 7:00 PM at Public House 701. The San Juan Symphony Family Concert presents Lemony Snicket, “The Composer is Dead” May 18th at the Community Concert Hall. Don’t forget to sign up for summer music camps. This year’s camps will take place June 10th through 14th and include the Discovering Music Camp for all children ages 6 through 11, Durango Chamber of Music Academy Camp for string players, and the Fort Lewis Piano Academy.
