Canadian folk trio the Good Lovelies to host Songwriter’s Workshop

Free workshop to be held at noon, prior to the Concert Hall show, April 18

Durango, CO – The Canadian folk trio the Good Lovelies will host a free workshop for aspiring or experienced songwriters on Wednesday, April 18, Noon to 1 p.m. on stage at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. The workshop is in advance of the trio’s Concert Hall show that same evening, 7:30 p.m.

The Good Lovelies’ Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore have garnered widespread notoriety for their songs said to have enlivened the folk music landscape. Their music has been called “sassy and sophisticated,” as they weave together three-part harmonies and a variety of acoustic instruments.

“This is a great opportunity for local songwriters to learn in an intimate, low key environment about the Lovelies’ songwriting process and more,” said Charles Leslie, Concert Hall director. “Plus they are very upbeat and really funny. We truly appreciate the Good Lovelies agreeing to offer this free workshop for our community members.”

No tickets are required for the songwriting workshop, and all ages are invited.

Tickets for the evening show featuring the Good Lovelies, with special guest, local singer/songwriter Lisa Blue ($18/$25) will be available at the songwriting workshop, as well as available on-line at www.durangoconcerts.com or by calling 970.247.7657, or at the Ticket Office in Downtown Durango at 7th St. and Main Ave. All sales final.

Winner of New Emerging Artist at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, as well as taking home a Juno for Roots/Traditional Album of the Year in 2010, the Good Lovelies are touring to promote their third, full-length album, Let the Rain Fall, an ode to camaraderie. With equal parts city and country, highway and home, wistfulness and attitude, the Good Lovelies’ good humor and self-assurance continues to charm audiences.

The concert is set to begin at 7:30 p.m., with doors to the Concert Hall and concessions, serving beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 6:30 p.m.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
