COLLEGE BOARD RECOGNIZES DHS STUDENTSForty-Five Demons Earn AP Scholar Awards


Durango High School Gifted and Talented Facilitator, Deborah Medenwaldt, has announced that forty-five students Durango High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2010 AP Exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on student’s performance on AP exams. At DHS, fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The DHS AP Scholar with Distinction Award recipients include Sarina Bernazzani, Hunter Dudley, Noah Fischer, Tyler Gordon, Ben Grazda, Aaron Grushkin, Will Hakes, Emily Jordan, Austin Lillard, Nicholas Ochsner, Taylor Sallee, Elizabeth Schell, Dylan Simonsen, and Kameko Winborn.

Eleven DHS students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least a 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. The DHS AP Scholar with Honor Award recipients are Kari Bjorlin, Sharona Bollinger, Briana Burton, Morgen Dorsey, Kelly Fuge, Jacqueline Heinrich, Teale Kitson, Rachel Miller, Bentley O’Quinn, John Ugai, and Alexander Wallace.

Twenty students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. The DHS AP Scholars are Sarah Bolton, Elena Breed, Harrison Costello Jake Coutlee, Alden Derck, Courtney Desko, Alena Egner, Chantel Fernandez, Kelly Fetchenhier, Davis Harlow, Sarah Ivey, Julia Lawton, Gabrielle Massone, Tonya Mulkey, Miranda Rex, Remy Russel, Kelcie Scott, Nick Skahill, Colin Wait, and Alec Walecki.
