Dr. Doug Lyon chosen to lead Fort Lewis College School of Business Administration
Durango, CO: Fort Lewis College President Dene Thomas has named Dr. Doug Lyon as the new dean of the FLC School of Business Administration (SOBA). Dr. Lyon has been serving as interim dean of SOBA since July 2011.
Dr. Lyon succeeds former dean Dr. Gary Linn, who took a leave of absence from Fort Lewis College last summer to lead the International Baccalaureate Program at Groupe Sup de Co in La Rochelle, France. Dr. Linn notified President Thomas of his intention to remain in France.
“Doug has been an active interim dean in his first seven months on the job,” says FLC President Dene Kay Thomas. “His energy and expertise show him to be ready for this appointment.”
Dr. Lyon is an FLC alumnus, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1987. He then earned a master’s degree in international management from the American Graduate School of International Management in 1988 and a Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Kentucky in 1997.
He taught at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton School of Business for two years before moving to teach at Utah State University. In 2002, Dr. Lyon, along with his wife, FLC Visiting Instructor of Accounting Chris Lyon, returned to Fort Lewis. He is also a member of the Durango City Council.
Dr. Lyon takes over a business school with a proud history. The FLC School of Business Administration was the first undergraduate-only business program to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). AACSB is the gold standard in terms of measuring the quality of a business school and today only about five percent of the world’s business schools have earned an AACSB accreditation.
