FLC and Boys & Girls Club joining forces for future college students
Durango, CO – Fort Lewis College and the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County are coming together for a second summer to offer a three-day program for local high school youth. Sponsored by funding from the US Department of Education, the Future Leaders of Colorado @ Fort Lewis College Summer Program is designed to encourage confidence and reduce barriers for area youth in attending college. It will take place July 24-26, 2013.
Students will participate in a variety of activities that will increase their knowledge of the college admissions process and set in motion the preparatory work of finding, and applying to institutions of higher education. This program will serve high school students who are members of the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County.
“The Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County is extremely excited to be partnering with Fort Lewis College for the FLC@FLC program again this year!” says Laura Lucero, program director for the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County. “Teaching youth about the College admissions process, and providing tools to succeed beyond high school are goals that both organizations share. The participants also look forward to feeling more comfortable on a college campus, experiencing student housing, and brainstorming ideas for potential college majors.”
