FLC Host Family Program connects students with community

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College Host Family Program, designed to help new college students from outside the area transition into college life, celebrated its first year, with 57 FLC students paired with 42 host families.

By pairing students with host families from the Durango area, new students instantly have a support network beyond just their families back home. Such support can include having access to laundry, getting a home-cooked meal, or merely having someone to talk to when homesickness or stress occurs.

Participants in the Host Family Program also enjoy special events, such as a recent trip on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, courtesy of Railroad owner Al Harper. It offered an opportunity to get away from campus and meet other host family students.
