Fort Lewis College Homecoming 2011 kicks off October 3

DURANGO – Fort Lewis College Homecoming 2011 begins October 3 and runs through October 9, 2011. As this is Fort Lewis’ centennial year, the student-selected theme for Homecoming is “100 Years of Summer.” Many of the events are free and open to the public.

Among the highlights of Homecoming week is the traditional Mudd Football game at 4 p.m. on the field behind the Mears Apartments on campus. Spectators are invited to come watch the chaos.

The true heart of Homecoming week begins on Friday, October 7 with the Homecoming Parade on Main Avenue at 6 p.m. This year, community members can enter their own parade floats and join in the fun. Floats should be inspired by the Homecoming theme. Entry is free. Sign up forms are available at http://www2.fortlewis.edu/homecoming/HomecomingEvents.aspx.

Following the parade will be an alumni reception at the Irish Embassy Pub on Main Avenue at 6:30 p.m. The reception is open to all FLC alumni and their families. Enjoy a great time with fellow Skyhawks before heading up to the Softball Complex on campus for the Homecoming Bonfire at 8 p.m.

Saturday, October 8 begins with the Alumni Awards Breakfast in the FLC Student Union Vallecito Room at 9 a.m. The breakfast is an opportunity to see and honor the exceptional work that FLC alumni are doing in the world. The Homecoming Tailgate Party is the official warm up before the Homecoming Football Game. Everyone is invited to the tailgate, which runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., just north of Dennison Field. Great food, live music and games will be available.

The culminating event of the week is the Homecoming Football Game at 1 p.m. at Dennison Field. The Skyhawks will battle Colorado Mesa University in what is sure to be a hard fought game.
