Fort Lewis College planning special activities for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Durango, CO – The annual Fort Lewis College tradition of celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013. The community is invited to join in the day’s free activities. Free parking is available in the football stadium lot.

The day begins with a March of Solidarity at 12:10 p.m. Marchers can assemble at the Center of Southwest Studies and, with the help of the FLC Choir, everyone will sing their way to the Student Union. The FLC Choir will then perform at the Union before everyone is invited inside for an open mic rally at the Union Lounge. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m. and running until 8 p.m., everyone is invited to participate in the Tunnel of Oppression. This interactive event highlights contemporary issues of oppression. Participants are guided through a series of scenes that aim to educate and challenge them to think more deeply about issues of oppression, privilege and power. Those under 18 years of age must have parental consent.
