Gov. Hickenlooper appoints local to Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College
Durango, CO: Mr. Steven Short has been appointed by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to join the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Colorado Senate Education Committee. Mr. Short will take the place of departing trustee Richard Ballantine.
Mr. Short is a member of the Durango community and is employed by First National Bank of Durango. He is the bank’s chairman of the board and former president and CEO. He also currently serves as the vice chairman of the Fort Lewis College Foundation Board of Directors.
In addition to the FLC Foundation, Mr. Short serves on the Durango Industrial Development Foundation, the Music in the Mountains Board, the Independent Bankers of Colorado Government Relations Committee, the Hundred Club of Durango, and the La Plata Forum.
He attended Fort Lewis College’s School of Business Administration and earned degrees from Colorado State University, the University of Colorado, and North Carolina State University.
“The ongoing success of Fort Lewis College is vital to the state of Colorado and most especially the southwest region of our state,” Mr. Short told the Governor’s Office. “I am extremely interested in the prospects of helping facilitate the Fort Lewis College mission by serving on its Board of Trustees.”
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Short will oversee the major functions and decisions of Fort Lewis College. The board has the final say in such actions as tuition and fees proposals, faculty tenure and promotion decisions, and approval of each graduating class.
