LPEA to host Efficient Irrigation Equipment Workshop

Free workshop to help irrigators, water companies and small rural businesses

DURANGO, Colo. – La Plata Electric Association (LPEA), with support of USDA Rural Development and Tri-State Generation and Transmission, will continue its Free Information Series with the Efficient Irrigation Equipment Workshop, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. at LPEA headquarters, 45 Stewart Street (Bodo Park), Durango.
The day-long event is designed to provide irrigators, water companies and small rural businesses with up-dated information on efficient irrigation systems and equipment, as well as potential funding support for energy efficient upgrades through the USDA and Tri-State. Lunch is included, courtesy of Tri-State.

“During the morning session Denis Reich, CSU Extension water resources specialist, and Dan Smeal of Nelson Irrigation will cover low and high volume irrigation efficiencies,” said Nancy Andrews, LPEA energy management advisor. “Those attending can expect to learn more about new technologies, studies and research, best practices, sprinkler versus flood irrigation and much, much more.”
The afternoon session is scheduled to feature Garth Evans of Summit Supply and Lewis Melchor of Monroe Pumps who will offer a thorough review of water pump types and operation, and how to achieve the maximum in energy efficiency.

“We also want to help mitigate the costs associated with these energy efficient upgrades,” said Sue Maxwell, LPEA project specialist. “So during the latter part of the workshop we will have representatives from the USDA and Tri-State cover potential funding opportunities for our members.”

Because lunch will be served, those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Sue Maxwell, 970.382.7170 or [email protected].
