“Native American Heritage Train: The Southern Ute Legacy” featured on D&SNG Railroad

DURANGO, Colo. – The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Sky Ute Casino and Resort and Southern Ute Tribe have partnered to present the Native American Heritage Train: The Southern Ute Legacy. This special excursion featuring a combination train ride and cultural performance at Cascade Canyon with traditional dances, songs, and drumming will run only July 25 and August 1, 2009.
The train departs at 10:15 a.m. and will travel 26 miles through the backcountry wilderness of the San Juan National Forest to Cascade Canyon, where it will stay for 1.5 hours. The performance will begin shortly after the train arrives and will last approximately 45 minutes. Passengers will have opportunity to explore the area, situated along the Animas River, before departing. Scheduled return time in Durango is 3:45 p.m. Lunch items will be available for purchase on the concession car
Standard-Class coach and open-air gondola seats and the Deluxe-Class Prospector car are available. Tribal Elders will ride with passengers in the Prospector car for storytelling and conversation. Additional Tribal members will be available throughout the trip to visit with passengers in Standard-Class cars. Standard-Class seats are $79 for adults (12 and over) and $49 for children (ages 4-11) and $119 for Deluxe-Class (all ages).
