Annual Kid’s Triathlon Scheduled for July 21


Durango, CO – The Durango Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual Kid’s Triathlon on Saturday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m. The event provides children of all ages and ability levels with a safe and unique athletic experience. Children will swim, bike and run an age-appropriate triathlon course, which begins and ends at the Durango Community Recreation Center. All children will receive a medal, certificate, and event souvenir on race day. An ice cream social, sponsored by Albertsons will follow the event. In addition to the event, children will gain free admission to the Triathlon Training Clinics offered prior to the event on July 16 and 18.

Early Registration for the Kid’s Triathlon costs $25.00 and will end Sunday, July 15 at 6:00 p.m. Participants may register at the Durango Community Recreation Center or on-line at https://web.durangogov.org. Late registration costs $30.00 and will be accepted until Friday, July 20, at 12:00 noon. No registrations will be accepted on race day.

Check in for the event will begin at 8:00 a.m. on race day at the Durango Community Recreation Center. Bicycles must pass a safety inspection on race day and all participants must wear a helmet during the bike ride.

The Kid’s Triathlon Training Clinic will take place on Monday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 18 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center. The goal is to prepare the children for their entry into the world of triathlons. Practice will be held in the three disciplines: swimming, biking and running. Transitions between the disciplines will be discussed and practiced. Safety will be emphasized in the sessions and bike checks will be conducted. The Training Clinics are free to any child, who is registered for the Kid’s Triathlon.
