Mercy offers “A Blue Christmas Service” Dec. 16

The public is invited to Mercy Regional Medical Center’s seventh annual Blue Christmas Service from 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the hospital’s chapel.  Led by Mercy chaplains, the 30-minute service will feature readings a time of remembrance, live music, prayer and a message of hope.

The Blue Christmas Service acknowledges that the holidays can be difficult for those suffering a loss such as the death of a loved one, unemployment, a broken relationship, illness, loneliness, disappointment, or even loss of a pet.

Mercy Mission Leader Diana McKenna said the hard economic times many in the region have experienced has contributed to a sense of loss during the holidays. “Job loss or difficulty finding employment not only impacts living conditions but one’s self-esteem. Sometimes it helps to be in community and acknowledge that the conditions and feelings are real,” she said.
