New Medicaid Program Accepting Applications for Eligible Adults until May 15, 2012


Durango, CO – Colorado has a new public health insurance program within Medicaid for low-income adults without dependent children that began accepting applications April 1, 2012. This new program is funded by the Colorado Health Care Affordability Act with hospital provider fees.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must
Earn approximately $90 or less per month for a single adult ($125 for a married couple);
Be 19-64 years old; and
Not already be on Medicare or Medicaid, or have a dependent child on Medicaid.

The program will be limited to 10,000 clients randomly selected state-wide in mid-May from applicants determined eligible between April 1 and May 15, 2012. Coverage for those selected will begin on May 1, 2012. Those not selected will be on a waitlist, and as openings become available, there will be additional random selections.

Applicants can complete applications online at Colorado.gov/PEAK, or in person at La Plata County Department of Human Services, 1060 E. 2nd Ave, Durango in the basement of the Courthouse.
