DHS HEAD BASKETBALL COACH INTERVIEWS ANNOUNCED

Community Invited to Participate in Selection Process

Five candidates have been invited to interview for the vacant Head Boys Basketball Coach position at Durango High School, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, 2010.

Parents, players, and interested community members are invited to attend a forum that will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Durango High School. Each candidate will have 25 minutes to answer questions generated by the audience. Afterward, the audience will have the opportunity to give written comments about each candidate to the interview team for consideration as it makes its recommendations to DHS principal, Diane Lashinsky.

The following three candidates have accepted the invitation to interview:

Alan Batiste: Alan is currently an assistant basketball coach at Santa Rita High School in Tucson, Arizona, where he has been for the past three seasons. He has also been teaching elementary physical education during that time. Alan served as a graduate assistant coach at Fort Lewis College in 2004-2005 and was the junior varsity coach at Durango High School for one season. His playing experience includes Santa Rita High School, Saddleback CC, Washburn University, and Fort Lewis College. Alan has a Bachelor’s Degree from Fort Lewis College in Exercise Science.

Jann Gillen: Jann is currently the head girl’s basketball coach in Norwood, Colorado, where he also teaches Spanish. Between 1998 and 2007, he taught and coached in Farmington, New Mexico, where he served as a 7th grade boys basketball coach, 8th grade girls basketball coach, 9th grade boys basketball coach, and head high school girls basketball coach. Jann has a B.A. from Fort Lewis College and M.A. from New Mexico State University.

Ernest Jones III: Ernest is currently the head boy’s basketball coach at Brighton High School in Brighton, Colorado. He has also coached at The Pinnacle Charter School, Montbello High School, Porter High School (Porter, OK), Mulhall-Orlando High School (Orlando, OK), and the Killester Feeder Team (Dublin, Ireland). His playing experience includes Lawton Eisenhower High School, Pattonville High School, Western Oklahoma JC, Oklahoma Weslyan University, Athletes in Action, and Club Team Killester.Ernest has a Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma State University.
