DURANGO MOUNTAIN RESORT REAPS REWARDS OF EPIC STORM
41″ already and up to 36″ addition in forecast
Durango, Colorado – December 21, 2010 (3pm MST). The storm of epic proportions, forecast to hit the San Juan Mountains, has delivered 41″ of new snow and continues to pound Durango Mountain Resort with snow falling at the rate of 1-2″ an hour.
“I have been skiing Purgatory/Durango Mountain for 20 years and today is as good a day skiing as I have ever had,” said Sven Brunso, VP of Sales & Marketing. He continued, “The snow came in dense to create an incredible base layer and the last 18″ is incredible powder. It has snowed so hard today that laps at 2:30 this afternoon are just as good as those at 9 this morning. These are the epic days that make memories.”
At 12 Noon today, chair 8 opened for the season bringing the amount of terrain open to more than 1200 acres. 98% of the mountain is now open and then remainder of terrain should open by the coming weekend.
The forecast is calling for an addition 8-10″ of snow tonight, 8-10″ during the day on Wednesday and 8-10″ again Wednesday night. Snow will continue into Thursday. The forecast calls for clearing skies on Friday just in time for the Christmas Holiday. Durango Mountain Resort got their present early and it excited to share with locals and visitors alike.
