Final Locals Day of Season to Benefit La Plata Search & Rescue

Locals Day to round out full lineup of weekend events that include racing, clam bake and FAC

Sunday, March 7, is Purgatory’s final of four Locals Days of the season, with $39 adult lift tickets and $25 child lift tickets to benefit KSUT public radio and La Plata County Search and Rescue. Locals Day coupons can be found online at KSUT.org and Buzztown.com, and in Thursday’s edition of the Durango Telegraph.

Steamworks Brewing Co. hosts its annual Clam Bake, this Friday, March 5 from 2-6 pm on Purgy’s beach, with all proceeds to benefit La Plata County Search and Rescue. “We initiated the Clam Bake five years ago as a way to enhance the ski experience and raise funds for local non-profits,” said Brian McEachron, Steamworks co-founder. “We’re pleased to partner with Durango Mountain Resort to support La Plata County Search and Rescue.”

The Clam Bake’s slopeside service features a hot bowl of fresh, steamed clams and a Steamworks beer for just $7. Popular Santa Fe DJ Melanie Moore, a three-time Santa Fe Reporter readers’ selection as “Best Local DJ,” will spin the tunes.

No lift ticket is needed to attend the Clam Bake, however half-day lift tickets will be available for just $39 (regularly $48) in conjunction with Purgatory’s Friday Afternoon Club. A coupon is required for the discounted rate and can be downloaded online at www.skipurg.com/locals.

In ski racing action this weekend, Purgatory hosts the second Purgatory Cup Slalom on Sunday, March 7. The Purgatory Cup is a four-race series consisting of two slaloms and two giant slaloms that are open to skiers ages 4 and above and all ability levels. Race-day registration for the Purgatory Cup will be held from 7:45-9 am at Hoody’s, and more info is available online at www.skipurg.com or by calling (970) 385-2149.
