Durango Mountain Resort takes direct hit from consecutive storm systems; Best conditions in SW US.
Durango, CO – It’s a powder week at Purgatory, where a series of winter storms have dropped more than 20 inches of fresh snow in the last 48 hours. Forecasters are predicting another three to four feet by the end of the week, as two more sizable storms move through the area. This week’s weather system has favored the Southwest San Juan Mountains of Colorado, and Purgatory has taken a direct hit. “This is what we’ve been waiting for,” said Sven Brunso, vice president of sales and marketing for Durango Mountain Resort. “This series of major storms is setting us up for excellent snow conditions as we head into the months of February and March. There has never been a better time to ski Purgatory.” The mountain is 100-percent open, with 85 trails and 1,325 skiable acres, including the new Legends tree-skiing area, 125 acres of steep, expert terrain that opened in December. As of noon today, the resort was reporting a 50-inch mid-mountain base, with approximately two feet of snow in the last 72 hours. Total snowfall for the season has now topped 110 inches.
