PURGATORY MARKS EARLIEST OPENING DAY IN FIVE YEARS

Durango, CO — It may be Black Friday, but this morning at Purgatory, all eyes were focused on the white, as the first chair of the season departed the base area at 9 a.m. with Freddy McDaniel and Tony Simon on board. Today marks the earliest opening day at Purgatory in five years, with one intermediate run (Demon), one lift (Lift 4) and man-made snow conditions. Lift tickets for opening weekend are $35 for adults, $20 for children ages 6-12, and $28 for students age 13 through high school and seniors 62+. Season passes, including weekday passes, will be honored.

Purgatory will temporarily suspend operations on Monday, Nov. 30 to allow its snowmaking and grooming team to operate at maximum capacity throughout the week, ensuring the best possible terrain offering when operations resume on Friday, Dec. 4, and for Benefit Day on Saturday, Dec. 5. As always, season passes are not valid on Benefit Day, in order to raise as much money as possible for this year’s beneficiaries, the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County and the Durango Winter Sports Foundation. Lift tickets for Benefit Day are $15, with $10 going to the Boys & Girls Club and $5 to the DWSF.

Purgatory’s first Locals Day, sponsored by KSUT, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20, with discounted lift tickets available for purchase with a coupon available exclusively in the Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 editions of the Durango Telegraph. Lift tickets for Locals Day are $39 for adults, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit KSUT and Manna Soup Kitchen.
