PURGATORY TO START DAILY OPERATIONS ON FRIDAY, DEC. 11
Latest storm dumps nearly three feet of snow, with more in the forecast later this week
Durango, CO – With more than 33 inches of snow so far this week and more in the forecast, Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will open for daily operations on Friday, Dec. 11. The most recent storm blanketed the resort in powder, and mountain operations crews are working to dig out buried equipment and machinery and to pack and groom the latest dump of fresh snow.
“There’s no such thing as too much snow, but thanks to Mother Nature, we’ve got our work cut out for us for the next few days,” said Mike McCormack, senior vice president of mountain operations. “With crews working around the clock, we expect to have a good mix of terrain ready for when we start seven-day-a-week operations on Friday.” The resort will announce on Thursday what runs will be open on Friday. All types of season passes, including weekday passes, will be honored this weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 12, Purgatory will host a Backcountry Demo Day, presented by Backcountry Experience and Pine Needle Mountaineering. Guests are invited to demo the latest tele and AT gear from Rossignol, Volkl, Black Diamond, Garmont, Dynafit, and more. Call (970) 247-8728 for more information. Sunday, Dec. 13 is College Day at Purgatory, with $29 lift tickets for college students with a valid college I.D.
Purgatory’s first Locals Day, sponsored by KSUT, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20, with discounted lift tickets available for purchase with a coupon available in the Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 editions of the Durango Telegraph, on www.Buzztown.com and www.KSUT.org. Lift tickets for Locals Day are $39 for adults, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit KSUT and Manna Soup Kitchen. A punch card good for all four of this year’s Locals Days is available for $99.
