Purgatory Unveils New Terrain, New Deals, New Menus, New Services for Winter 09-10
On the slopes…
In headline news for 2009-2010, Purgatory will unveil 125 acres of new, expert terrain, slated to open on December 20. The Legends Expansion increases Purgatory’s expert terrain by 30 percent and extends the resort’s western boundary to include 1,200 additional vertical feet of steep tree-skiing. The project marks the first major expansion of terrain at Purgatory since the 1980s and expands our total skiable acreage by 10 percent to 1,325 acres.
Also in the news, Purgatory will be open for extended weekend skiing and riding from March 27 through the end of April, weather permitting. All passholders, including weekday passholders, can take advantage of these bonus days of spring skiing.
Just for locals, Purgatory has increased its number of discounted Local’s Days (one per month, December through March) and added four discounted College Days (one per month, December through March) and a new Friday Afternoon Club. The Friday Afternoon Club features discounted full-day and half-day lift ticket and meal packages, plus drink specials.
Twin-tippers can perfect their terrain park skills in our new “tiny” terrain park, designed to help with skill progression. New hits will be strategically placed on Lower Bank to help funnel Pitchfork terrain park traffic out of Demon and into the DC terrain park.
Food, beverages and entertainment…
The newly redesigned Creekside Italian Kitchen will be serving pizza, pasta and paninis – also available for take-out and delivery – in an updated pub atmosphere featuring flat-screen televisions and a new sound system. Friday nights are karaoke nights, and Saturday nights will feature live music, with rotating Sunday entertainment and sports events.
The Backside Bistro is adding a selection of “tapas,” or appetizer-sized dishes, to its regular menu. Each is perfect as a light meal, or guests can combine several and share among friends. Chef’s favorites include sliders of wild-caught ahi, Kobe beef or beef tenderloin, and “Bull Run Oysters” baked with spinach, Spanish chorizo and manchego cheese.
Check out the new Pitchfork Pub, overlooking the Pitchfork terrain park. Fans of the old Purgy’s will love the retro décor, with video poker, pool, a full-service bar with draft beers on tap and happy hour specials from 2-3:30 daily. For teens, the Pitchfork Pub will serve a selection of new, non-alcoholic beverages.
Offering breakfast, lunch, wine, beer, liquor, groceries and household supplies, the Village Market and Deli and the Village Wine Cellar are now open 365 days a year.
Early birds will enjoy Purgy’s new hot breakfast options, including an omelet station, breakfast burritos and waffles, plus new early-morning coffee service. For lunch, Purgy’s Coffee Kiosk will offer a selection of healthy wraps Afternoons at Purgy’s will be set to the tune of live, acoustic music.
Around the resort…
New this season, Buck’s Livery will offer nightly sleigh rides departing from the base area, with optional ticket packages that include dinner and drinks.
In town…
Adult ski shuttle buses will run from the new downtown Transit Center. This expanded transportation service will serve locals and downtown lodging guests, enabling them to connect from the “T” to the shuttle at the Transit Center. For the convenience of local parents, a student shuttle also will operate on school holidays and weekends.
