Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort
Just an easy and quick 27 mile jaunt north of downtown Durango with no mountain passes, Durango Mountain Resort provides world class skiing in a great family-friendly environment. With 10 lifts, including a high-speed 6-pack that fires you to the top in just 6 minute, you can spend more time making turns and less time in lift lines. Ski Magazine recently selected Purgatory as one of the “7 Great Mountains to Ski With Your Kids”and one of only two resorts selected from Colorado. With exhilorating yet mellow beginner runs for the new skier / boarder as well as a terrain park with halfpipe, multiple sections of rails and boxes, consecutive tabletops, step-up and big air hits, DMR is a playground for every level.

If that wasn’t enough, Durango was named in the January 2008 edition of Ski Magazine as “One of the Next Best Places to Ski, Live, Invest and Retire” (Durango was the only Colorado town chosen) and DMR was hailed as one of the Top 20 Ski Resorts in North America in 2007 by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort’s ski area spans more than 2,400 acres with almost 950 acres of terrain and an average annual 260 inches of snow. Enhancements include ski and snowboard programs for families and children, a nighttime lesson center and a 25% increase in snowmaking capacity. 10 chairlifts serve the 75 trails (up to two miles long) and have helped make Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort a long time favorite of skiers and snowboarders from all over the country. Also, new in the 2009/2010 Ski season, the first in a series of major expansions since the mid 1980’s will offer advanced and expert skiiers a brand new playgroud. The new Legends Expansion will offer up to 30% more terrain for advanced skiiers with over 1200 vertical feet of steep trails and 125 acres of new tree skiing. Also planned in the near future, guests will see the replacement of the Legends Lift (Chair 8) with a high-speed quad, and the clearing of additional terrain.
