Friday morning community members and pedestrians along the Animas River Trail were gifted with an odd surprise. Sometime early Friday a young male moose was spotted in town. The moose was visible near the Animas River north of 9th street bridge and lingered in the are for some time. It was reported that people along the river trail respectfully watched the animal and enjoyed it’s presence. Viewing wildlife in the fall is not too uncommon in Durango, but this has been the first moose sighting for some time. It is always advised to keep a respectful distance from wild animals especially when they venture into town.
