Ilze Aviks will be presenting at the Open Shutter Gallery Thursday, October 20, through November 30, 2016

The Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Avenue, Durango, is excited to present their new Red Room exhibition, Noting the Effects, showcasing one-of-a-kind photography, collage, and stitching on linen, silk, and felted wool by internationally exhibited textile artist, Ilze Aviks. The show begins Thursday, October 20, and continues through.

Ilze Aviks, MFA, is renowned for her thought-provoking, innovative work with fibers, stitching, printing, and collage. In Noting the Effects, she states, “Layers of imagery (cyanotype and digital) on silk and linen supply the visual intermingling of old and new events with a hint of camouflage. Joining the layers together with stitching is a metaphor for the arising and receding of longing and memory.” Aviks’ tapestries and stitched cloth are internationally exhibited, and are included in numerous public and

private collections. She has maintained a studio in Durango, Colorado, for over 30 years. We are so lucky to have her here!
Please join us for the Artists’ Reception to meet the artist on Thursday, October 20, 5PM – 8PM. For more information call the Open Shutter Gallery at 382-8355
