Moving Day and Christmas Reward Program
Durango School District 9-R has begun moving the administration from the former, historic administration building downtown to its new location in Bodo Park. The City of Durango has announced a domain change to better assure residents of the authenticity of the website. Durango’s Business Improvement District is bringing back the winter rewards program, and celebrate the holidays with gingerbread and more at the Black Diamond Lodge’s Gingerbread Lodge. Merely Players Presents Rock Musical Hands on a Hardbody
Merely Players is in the middle of a diverse and interesting 2023-24 season, currently showing the regional premiere of Hands on a Hardbody at the Merely Underground at 789 Tech Center Drive. Hands on a Hardbody is a 2013 country rock musical based on a 1997 documentary about a group of Texans who compete to win a new truck by keeping their hands on it the longest. This unconventional musical, with a book by Doug Wright and music by Amanda Green and Trey Anastasio of Phish, explores a wide array of human experiences and emotions, as the contestants reveal their stories through an upbeat score that fuses country, blues, and rock. Featuring an ensemble cast of local talent and an actual full size working truck, this show is fun for the whole family. Doing Everything, Just a Bit Differently

DHS Football Reflects on final 3A Season
With a new Head Coach, a new Quarterback and a new offense the DHS football team continued racking up wins in 2023. Durango ended the season with players in the top-5 of Colorado’s rushing and passing stat leaders. A 39-30 loss to Lutheran in the quarterfinals of the Colorado 3A tournament bracket marks the final season Durango will play in Class 3A as the Demons are scheduled to jump to 4A beginning next season. Housing Program Extends Deadline
Visit Durango is asking La Plata County residents for their input on tourism in the county – especially on environmental impacts and local business and economy. Skyhawks Cross Country Team Runs to National Championship
For the first time ever, Fort Lewis College will send both a men’s and women’s team to the NCAA Division II National Championship meet in the same season. It marks the first time in ten years a men’s team from Fort Lewis has qualified. The men’s team punched its ticket by running to a sixth-place finish at the South Central Regional, an improvement from last season’s 11th place finish. San Juan Basin Public Health Announces Closing Date
San Juan Basin Public Health will close this December, in accordance with agreements with La Plata and Archuleta counties, who will be responsible for providing public health services to their counties. Most Traveled Person Visits Western Slope
Daniel Seddiqui, titled the “Most Traveled Person in America” by Rick Steves, finally crossed Southwest Colorado off his list of places to visit. Dolores Bike Hostel Opens

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Kokanee Salmon Giveaway in Dolores
After spawning kokanee salmon from McPhee Reservoir, Colorado Parks and Wildlife gives away salmon that otherwise would die in the Dolores River. Parks and Wildlife have been doing these giveaways since the 1990s. Two more giveaways are planned for November 2nd and November 9th.
