Spring Events in Durango

Spring is celebrated in Durango with annual events including biking, wine, and music. Coloradoans are excited to see warmer weather after a snowy winter, so don’t miss out on these local events.

Music, specifically bluegrass music, can be heard all throughout town during the annual Durango Bluegrass Meltdown festival at the end of April. This three day event brings together 20+ local and traveling bands to perform at concerts, jams, and a barn dance. A contest, late night performances, and spontaneous jams are hosted at local venues. Tickets are limited and you won’t want to miss out on this lively, family-fun event.

The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic was founded in 1972 and has since turned into one of the biggest Memorial Day weekend events with riders and spectators from all over the world. There are mountain, gravel, and road racing events for all ages as well as the Veterans Memorial Train Ride. The Coca-Cola Road Race is the main event drawing in thousands of riders to endure a 47 miles course that goes over two 10,000+ feet passes. From Durango to Silverton, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad locomotive takes the same journey with a big finish-line celebration in Silverton.

What better way to support local businesses than enjoy a glass of wine with others? The Durango Wine Experience does just that with a weekend of tastings, talking, and partnering with local non-profits. From the walkabout to the grand tasting, hundreds of wines, beers, craft spirits, and artisan food creates a lively gathering with grants from the proceeds going to ten local nonprofit organizations. Tickets are coveted, so don’t miss out on supporting local with this lively event.

Durango hosts many events throughout the year and spring holds some of the most community oriented ones. From gathering together over a glass of wine to riding bikes side by side or dancing at a festival, these events truly encompass the Durango spirit.
