With all the recent snow (finally!) it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy some winter sport activity. Durango is a fantastic place because there are so many ways to enjoy the outdoors. Skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and more are options, and all within a close distance from town. One of Durango’s standout features is the Durango Nordic Center at Purgatory. It’s filled with 20km of trails for skate or classic skiing, fatbiking, and trails groomed for snowshoeing.
They offer rentals, which makes this a one-stop shop if you’re looking to venture into a new sport, or just want a convenient way to explore the outdoors. Group lessons, clinics, and private lessons are available, so all skill levels can try out this adventure.
This is a true community organization. They have Snowburners, for kids to learn cross-country skiing through fun and games, and a junior program available for youth who desire to train in cross-country skiing. They work with all skill levels—recreational to Olympic training.
During the winter, the Nordic Center also hosts races and family events, so be sure to check out their website for upcoming dates and information. We live in the perfect place to participate in and enjoy these outdoor sports. With fresh snow and a beautiful location, the Nordic Center is an awesome community feature!
