Chapman Hill to See Improvements to Ski Hill

Durango, CO – The Durango Winter Sports Foundation, in partnership with the City of Durango, will be completing improvements to the ski hill at Chapman Hill. The upper portion of the ski hill will be graded and smoothed out to enable more efficient snowmaking and grooming operations. The Rope Tow take-off and landing areas will be improved. Two additional pick points or anchoring systems will be installed for the snowcat to attach its winch to at the top of the hill.

These additional pick points will enable improved grooming operations, especially on the northern portion of the ski hill. An elevated rock and earthen platform will be built at the top of the hill for the starting area of the mogul course. A path from the ski hill, around the back of the skating rink, will also be created to the sledding hill so that the snowcat can be used to groom the sledding hill.

The ski hill improvements are scheduled to be completed, weather permitting, beginning on October 5, 2012. Construction is anticipated to be three days. Users of Chapman Hill are encouraged to exercise caution while construction is underway. All of the improvements are being completed by volunteers with extensive professional expertise including equipment and operator time donated by McCarty Excavation.
