Durango is full of hidden treasures and unique finds. There is never a shortage of things to do and places to explore. One of our favorite finds is James Ranch, located in the Animas Valley. It’s been around for awhile, and provides local services and products. It is 400 acres of beautiful land. They produce grass-fed beef, artisan cheese, eggs, and more. There is a heavy focus on “going beyond organic,” meaning they are organic, but also incorporate many additional holistic decisions in their daily tasks and overall operation. They focus on how those tasks impact the environment, animals, land and more.
In recent years, it seems there has been a strong focus on the origin of food, and how it is grown or fed. James Ranch provides such pure selections, it is exciting to consider. It only takes one visit to the ranch to realize this location is quintessential, and its home in one of the most beautiful valleys is a unique place for animals to live.
An easy way to enjoy James Ranch is by stopping at the Harvest Grill and Greens, which is a food cart, but full of healthy selections, many of which come from James Ranch! Menu selections include burgers, steak sandwiches, salads, and more. The food is excellent, and the ambiance is unmatched. Picnic tables overlook the valley and mountains in the area, and chickens and other farm animals are visible for little ones to enjoy. It is a gorgeous place to enjoy lunch or dinner. During the summer, they host a “Burger & Bands” night, which is a fun way to enjoy music and a burger (for only $20 per person!).
