City of Durango’s Facility Closures for the USA PRO Cycling Challenge



Durango, CO – The following is the City of Durango’s facilities closures for the USA PRO Cycling Challenge events:

City Administrative Offices at City Hall and River City Hall will be closed Monday and Tuesday, August 20th & 21st. However, Building Services (such as permitting and inspections) will be open both days at River City Hall for only those two services. The Airport and the Utilities Department at the General Services office will be open regular working hours both days.

The Police Department will not be closed anytime during this event, with the exception of the lobby, which will be closed only for an hour on Monday, August 20th from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.

Recreation Center will be closed all week from Monday, August 20th through Saturday, August 25th for maintenance. Parks & Recreation and Greenmount Cemetery administrative offices, as well as Chapman Hill and the Mason Center will all be closed only on Monday, August 20th.

Public Library and all of the branches will be open for regular working hours.
Commercial and Residential Trash and Recycling pickup will occur as normally scheduled with all drop-off locations open. The Recycle Center will also be open.

Transit will run the regular Main Avenue trolley and fixed route buses, which will be FREE Friday (sponsored by The Resource Small Business Program) and FREE on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (sponsored by Oakridge Energy), during the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Transit also will have additional services for the USA PRO Cycling Challenge events that are as follows:
Saturday, August 18th from 4:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., two trolleys will run service shuttles to Fort Lewis College (FLC) for the Gala. Service will begin picking up guests at the DoubleTree Hotel at 501 Camino Del Rio, travel to the Transit Center Concourse at 250 W. 8th Street, to the Strater Hotel at 699 Main Avenue, to the Rochester Hotel at 721 East 2nd Avenue, and take guests up to the Gala at FLC. These two trolleys will run every 15 minutes until 10:30 p.m.

Sunday, August 19th from 3:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., two special service shuttle buses will run from the La Plata County Fairgrounds parking lot at 2500 Main Avenue to Buckley Park at 12th Street and Main Avenue for the downtown street festival that will be taking place from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the fireworks show beginning at 9:15 p.m. Main Avenue will be closed from 11th Street to 5th Street.

Monday, August 20th from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., shuttle buses will go from the Transit Center at 250 W. 8th Street to four satellite parking lots located at: the Durango Mall at 800 South Camino Del Rio, Twin Buttes at 20091 US 160, Fort Lewis College at 1000 Rim Drive, and La Plata County Fairgrounds/Durango High School at 2500 & 2400 Main Avenue.

Buzz Buses will run evenings on Friday (1 Bus), Saturday (2 Buses), and Sunday (2 Buses). Please call 970-259-5438 for more information.

Bike Parking on Race Day: On Monday, August 20th, bike parking will be available throughout the City of Durango on designated bike racks that are located on the sidewalks. Please use a designated bike rack so the flow of traffic on sidewalks is not impeded by bikes locked to trees, benches, street signs, etc.

Parking meters are always FREE on weekends, but will also be FREE on race day, Monday, August 20th in honor of Durango being chosen as the “start city” for the USA PRO Cycling Challenge!
