Purgatory Ends Season With a Splash
Purgatory Resort closed its regular season with a pond skimming contest that attracted hundreds of spectators and 75 contestants who tried to ski or snowboard across a pond of icy water. With 5 feet of snow still on the ground, Purgatory plans to open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of April.
Training Future Olympians
More than a hundred elementary and middle-school-aged skiers proved their mettle last week at the Hampton Inn State Mogul Skiing Championships at Purgatory Resort. These are kids who we may see on the U.S. Olympic Ski Team or the World Pro Ski Tour one day. Durango TV News finds out more.

Global Snow Research in Silverton
A NASA-funded worldwide research project on global water supplies included a slice of the San Juan Mountains last month, thanks to the Silverton Avalanche and Snow Studies Center.
